If you’re on this online casino game page, chances are you’re already familiar with our table game selection online, and probably craps itself, and you’re simply looking for some basic game play information on how to play online Craps table games. The play goal of the game is to place the best real money bets possible and then get paid for those real money bets by rolling a certain outcome with the dice. The best way to think about Craps table games is as a game of rounds, and all rounds begin with one simple roll: the come out roll.

Getting Started with Online Craps

After all real money bets are placed on the Craps game table, the shooter starts the play action with the come out roll. With online Craps games, you’re always the shooter, whereas in a land-based casino, players take turns being the shooter. The come out roll is always the first roll of the round and has four potential results: Win, Loss, Push and Point.

Whether you win, lose or push depends on the real money bet you placed—we’ll explain the outcomes of each play bet in the How to Bet section. A win, loss or push outcome ends the round right away. However, if you roll a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10, the Point is established and the round continues. The number rolled becomes the Point number, and a black puck is flipped from Off to On and placed on the coinciding number on the table to help you remember. When a Point is rolled, you keep on rolling the dice until you either reroll the Point, or “Seven Out” by rolling a 7.

Understanding House Edge in Craps

Determining casino house edge in Craps table games is trickier than with most online casino table games. Outcomes typically take quite a few meaningless rolls before the play bet is resolved, and most real money bets can be removed before and after each roll. Since real money bets can be removed, a roll that doesn’t resolve the bet should technically be counted as a push, but more often than not, players keep their casino bets on the game table until there’s a deciding outcome.

When counting the pushes, the house edge for the primary Craps game real money bets are as follows:

Pass/Come: 1.41%

Don’t Pass/Don’t Come: 1.36%

Odds Bets: No house edge

How to Bet in Online Craps

While the Pass and Don’t Pass bets are the primary ones used, there are plenty of other ways to cash in on real money Craps online. We’ll cover the most popular online Craps play bets and include their casino house edge per game bet made.

Online Craps Bets Glossary

Pass (1.41%): Put one's play bet on the Pass Line before the come out roll. If the come out roll is a 7 or 11, one wins. If it’s a 2, 3 or 12, one loses. All other outcomes establish a Point number. Reroll the Point before a 7, and one wins. Roll a 7 before the Point, and one loses.

Don’t Pass (1.36%): Put your casino bet on the Don’t Pass Bar before the come out roll. If the come out roll is a 2 or 3, you win. If it’s a 7 or 11, you lose. If it’s a 12, you tie. All other outcomes establish a Point number. Reroll the Point before a 7, and you lose. Roll a 7 before the Point, and you win.

Pass Odds (0% casino house edge): Once a Point is established, and you’ve already placed a Pass Line bet, you can beef up your Pass Line by taking game odds. This play bet follows the same outcomes as the Pass Line bet, but has zero casino house edge attached.

Don’t Pass Odds (0% casino house edge): Once a Point is established, and you’ve already placed a Don’t Pass bet, you can beef up your Don’t Pass bet by laying odds. This play bet follows the same outcomes as the Don’t Pass bet, but has zero casino house edge attached.

Come (1.41%): The Come bet can be placed after a Point has been established. This starts a new round with a new come out roll and has the same outcomes as the Pass Line bet.

Don’t Come (1.36%): The Don’t Come bet can be placed after a Point has been established. This starts a new round with a new come out roll and follows the rules of the Don’t Pass bet.

Come Odds (0% casino house edge): After placing a Come bet and establishing a Point, you can boost your bet by taking the Come betting odds.

Don’t Come Odds (0% casino house edge): After placing a Don’t Come bet and establishing a Point, you can boost your bet by taking the Don’t Come betting odds.

Place to Win: You can bet on the 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 being rolled before a 7 through the Place to Win bets. The house edge depends on the number chosen.

• Place to Win 6 & 8 (0.46%)

• Place to Win 5 & 9 (1.11%)

• Place to Win 4 & 10 (1.67%)

Place to Lose: Alternatively, you can bet on the 7 being rolled before a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10. The house edge depends on the number selected.

• Place to Lose 6 & 8 (0.56%)

• Place to Lose 5 & 9 (0.69%)

• Place to Lose 4 & 10 (0.76%)

Buy Number: The Buy Number bet is the same as the Place to Win bet, in that you are betting one (or more) of the Point numbers (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10) will be rolled before a 7. The difference is the payout; with the Buy Number bet, you get paid based on true betting odds (like the odds bets) minus a non-refundable 5% commission.

• Buy 6 & 8 (1.46%)

• Buy 5 & 9 (1.32%)

• Buy 4 & 10 (1.19%)

Lay: The Lay bet is the opposite of the Buy Number bet in that you’re betting that a 7 will be rolled before the number you choose to lay your bet on (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10). This bet pays based on true odds (like the odds bets) minus a non-refundable 5% commission.

• Lay 6 & 8 (1.22%)

• Lay 5 & 9 (0.90%)

• Lay 4 & 10 (0.61%)

Big 6 & 8 (2.78%): After establishing a Point, you can bet that the 6 and/or 8 will be rolled before a 7 for even-money.

Field Bet (2.78%): Just above the Pass Line area, there’s a section for Field bets that contains the numbers 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 and 12. You’re wagering that the next roll will be one of these seven numbers. All wins pay even-money except 2, which pays double, and 3, which pays triple.

Hardway: Rolling a number the “hard way” means rolling two identical numbers on each die. For example, rolling two 2s is the hard way to roll a 4. Alternatively, rolling a 3 and 1 is the “easy way” to roll a 4. Craps has four Hardway bets: 4, 6, 8, 10. To win, you must roll the chosen number the hard way before rolling a 7.

• Hard 6 & 8 (2.78%)

• Hard 4 & 10 (2.78%)

Seven (16.67%): Toss a chip on the Seven bet, and if the next roll outcome is a 7, you win.

Any Craps (11.11%): The Any Craps play bet is a wager that the next roll will be a 2, 3 or 12. If it’s anything else, you lose.

What are Online Craps Odds?

You may have heard of “the odds” in online Craps games being the best bet in the house, and it’s true. Craps play odds are one of the few bets in the casino that come with zero house edge. In order to access this highly-sought after bet, you need to first place a Pass or Don’t Pass bet, or a Come or Don’t Come bet.

Best Bets in Online Craps

As mentioned, the best bets in Craps at Ignition Casino are the Odds bets, which involve both laying odds and taking odds. You can’t beat zero house edge, so it makes sense to bet the max on Craps odds when you’re able to.

Worst Bets in Online Craps

Proposition bets come with the highest house edge and are best avoided. These one-roll long shot bets involve betting on a specific number being rolled next.

Online Craps Strategy

To maximize your profits when you play online Craps games, you want to bet max on the odds bet. The best combo possible is the Don’t Pass/Don’t Come bet, followed by maximum betting on the odds every time the Point is established. Follow this basic formula, and you’ll look like a Craps pro at the casino.

If you’re looking to play a Craps game online, check out the two versions available in the Table Games section at Ignition Casino. Both are available in Practice Play and Real Play modes, so you can test the game play before diving in with real money bets. Good luck when you play at those craps tables!
